hello! i'm canela

i'm a rising sophomore at harvard, pursuing a double concentration in math and comparative literature. this summer, i'm doing math research at georgia tech and learning about ai safety with aisst.

based in
Maryland + Cambridge, MA

recent things i've worked on.

academic & research

Bridging epidemiological and microbial dynamics via quorum sensing2026
Georgia Tech Math REU

Working under Rachel Kuske and Sam Brown. Created a multi-strain SLHR model for strep pneumococcus. Used Python to visualize and analyze a system of ODEs.

Directed Reading Program2026
Harvard Math Department

Learned about representation theory, category theory, and homological algebra. Used Ralf Schiffler's "Quiver Representations." Mentored by Chenglu Wang.

CGMD Modeling of Fibrinogen2024
Simons Summer Research Program

Adjusted force field parameters and ran simulations of a coarse-grained model of fibrinogen, with the goal of corroborating the known importance of alpha-C domains for blood clotting. Wrote a guide for the lab on how to run simulations on Stony Brook's supercomputing cluster, performed data analysis with Python, studied PINN architectures. Mentored by Professor Yuefan Deng and Georgios Kementzidis.

Analysis of Rabies Epidemiology2023-2025
UPenn Zoonotic Diseases Research Laboratory

Studied the epidemiology of canine rabies in Arequipa, Peru. Did various tasks for the lab, including kernel density analysis, tracking of vaccination routes, heat maps, relative risk maps, hypothesis tests. Results were used to guide vaccination campaigns in the city.

Howard County Math Journal2021-2025

I was a founding editor-in-chief of the Howard County Math Journal. I wrote articles, created the journal's website, and helped another journal get up and running.
